CBJ offers a variety of options for worship and connection each week on Shabbat.
Currently all Friday night services have been moved to 6:30pm and are held on Zoom or via the webcam. Please check the calendar and weekly emails for updates and changes.
First Friday of the Month, November to June (check calendar for occasional exceptions), musical service at 6:15 pm, dinner, by reservation only, immediately following.
This service, led by the Team Rockin’ Musicians under the leadership of Cantor Barbara Powell, is full of ruach (spirit). Congregants are encouraged to join in leading the prayers or to play instruments with the band. This is an evening for people of all ages. There is an excellent Shabbat meal served following the service.
Second Fridays Coming Home Together
Join us for Second Friday Night Kabbalat Shabbat services in CBJ members’ homes, led by our clergy. Services begin at 6:30pm and will be followed by Oneg refreshments, to start our Shabbat with sweetness.
We’re looking forward to celebrating Shabbat in the intimate surroundings of a fellow congregant’s home.
Please note: the Synagogue will be closed this evening.
Family Shabbat Dinner & Service
Third Friday of the Month, most months during the school year (check calendar for exceptions), dinner at 5:30 pm, service at 6:15 pm.
Please join us for Family Shabbat. Dinner will begin at 5:30 pm. followed by a family-friendly service with Bill Futornick and Cantor Barbara Powell at 6:15 pm. Your children will be entertained with art with Teacher Natalya and stories with Bill!
Musical Fourth Friday
Join us for our new musical 4th Friday night services. Starting at 7:30, we will sing, dance and move with the Kabbalat Shabbat service as we decompress from our workweeks and create a relaxing and meaningful Shabbat experience. Led by Michael Battat and Bill, we look forward to being together and letting the music stir our souls.
Babies & Blessings
Every Friday from 5:00 – 6:00pm. September through June.
A baby friendly Kabbalat Shabbat with Cantor Barbara includes
• Shabbat Prayers, including Candles, Kiddush and Motzi
• Time to Schmooze
Older siblings welcome, too, along with parents and other loved ones.

Every Saturday, 9:00 – 10:00 am, in the Beit Midrash
The capstone of lifelong learning at CBJ is this lively and sometimes intense weekly journey deep into the Torah landscape. Here, a growing group of Torah-explorers comes together every Saturday to travel the twists and turns verse by verse, guided by Rabbi Ezray and Bill Futornick. You’ll never look at Torah quite the same way again. Speaking is encouraged but not required!
Every Saturday, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm (approximately), in the Beit K’nesset
In the sanctuary, the service is traditional, egalitarian and stresses learning and lay participation. We use the Lev Shalem prayer book and our Torah reading follow a triennial cycle.
Neshama – Feeding your soul on Shabbat
First Saturday of each month at 10:15 – 11:15 am.
We offer Mussar as an alternative and supplement to our worship services.
Every Saturday, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, in the Beit Tfillah
Join us for the Power Hour, a new concept in Saturday morning services! The Power Hour takes you through the essentials of the Shabbat morning service in one hour packed with song and prayer, learning and community. Co-led by CBJ clergy and a rotation of inspirational song leaders, the Power Hour is timed so that you can experience the service and then come together for Kiddush with those who attend the Sanctuary Service.
Tot Shabbat Childcare
Every Saturday, 9:00 am thru the end of services.
Join Teacher Natalya as she engages young children in Jewish traditions and customs through stories, songs, dancing, and Shabbat-appropriate arts and crafts.
Shabbat blessings over challah and grape juice at snack time is the highlight of the morning as children share the positive experiences they’ve had during the week and what they are looking forward to in the week to come.
Tot Shabbat is held in the school wing, in Room Hey, and is FREE to both CBJ members and non-members. No registration required; drop off any time you would like.

Join kids of all ages for our Junior Congregation, led by our talented congregant Dan Leemon. This service features guitar-accompanied prayer and a very lively Torah discussion. Junior Congregation, which is part of our religious school curriculum, is where our students learn to be comfortable on the bimah while leading services, and creative and thoughtful in understanding prayers and Torah. Young Family Service
Saturdays, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm once a month during the school year (check calendar for dates)
Make a tent with the parachute as we sing “Mah Tovu”! Reach for the sky with a scarf as we sing “Shamayim”! Children and parents are invited to join Rabbi Ilana and guitarist Devin Leslie for a fun session of songs, prayers, and story-telling. Everyone is always invited to stay for lunch.
