Vision
Nurture a vibrant, warm and welcoming community grounded in Jewish values, practice and learning that honors the gifts and individuality of our members.
Mission
CBJ strives to create a wonderful environment of inclusion. We strive for each member to connect with one another in our warm CBJ community, as well as to connect to our broader community. There are many doors to enter and we invite you to explore which best fits you: spiritual experiences, learning experiences, social gathering, joyful community, social justice activism, connection to Israel. We seek to enrich our lives and make the world a better place
The concept of covenant (brit) is central to Judaism. It is a covenant that defines our relationship to God, Torah and Israel. In such a covenantal relationship, each partner has responsibilities incumbent upon him or her. With this Covenant of Members, we propose to look at CBJ membership as a covenantal relationship. With this Covenant of Members, we commit to being part of and contributing to our CBJ community.
These are the pillars of our community:
TALMUD TORAH – Learning
The cornerstone of our synagogue is lifelong learning – from our youth to our seniors. Our learning is dynamic and relevant, with numerous opportunities to participate.
TEFILLA – Worship
We strive for individual, communal and spiritual experience, finding empathy and connection with prayer. Our services are participatory and joyful and we offer different types of services to meet different needs.
KEHILLA – Community Building
We strive to create deep connections between members. We connect to one another through interests, stories, sacred gatherings, celebrations and shared Jewish life.
KEDUSHAT CHAYIM – Lifecycle
We personalize our celebrations of moments of life from cradle to grave. Together we celebrate birth, B’nai Mitzvah, conversion, and weddings, while supporting each other during illness and loss.

DUES PHILOSOPHY
Welcome to our community home! We believe in transparency and simplicity, which is why our annual sustaining amount of $4,900 per family covers all the essential needs of our congregation, including what other synagogues might typically categorize separately—such as building fees, security costs, and High Holy Day contributions. By streamlining these into one amount, we ensure there are no surprises or hidden costs. Please note that this does not include fees for services such as dinners or school programs, which are handled separately.
We understand each family’s financial situation is unique, and we are committed to making sure everyone can participate meaningfully. You are invited to make an annual contribution that feels right for your family. If you need assistance or guidance in determining a contribution, our executive director, Keren Smith, is available for a private conversation. We are here to support you as you engage with our community in a way that feels both meaningful and sustainable.
The synagogue's dues year runs from July 1 to June 30.
