The Cultural Politics of Israeli Cuisine
Israeli cuisine is famous. With a documentary film, Israeli restaurants and many cookbooks about Israeli food available, Israeli cuisine has become an important cultural good, and one that is seemingly apolitical. Yet, for many Diasporas Jews it is through the Israelization of Jewish food that we connect with Israel.
Dr Ilan Zvi Baron is an Associate Professor in the School of Government and International Affairs at Durham University, where he is also co-director of the Centre for the Study of Jewish Culture, Society, and Politics. His most recent books include, “How to Save Politics in a Post-Truth Era: Thinking Through Difficult Times” and “Obligation in Exile: The Jewish Diaspora, Israel and Critique.” He is also a renowned chef!
